Description
The RPR with Reflex Test is a blood test that screens for syphilis, a sexually transmitted infection (STI) caused by the bacterium Treponema pallidum. If the initial RPR (Rapid Plasma Reagin) test is positive, a reflex confirmatory test is automatically performed to ensure an accurate diagnosis.
What It Measures:
-
RPR Antibodies: Detects antibodies produced in response to syphilis infection.
-
Reflex Testing: Automatically follows up positive results with a confirmatory test (such as FTA-ABS or TP-PA) to rule out false positives.
Why Itโs Important:
-
Early Detection: Identifies syphilis in its early stages, even before symptoms appear.
-
Accurate Diagnosis: Reflex testing ensures positive results are confirmed, reducing misdiagnosis.
-
Preventing Transmission: Early detection allows prompt treatment, lowering the risk of spreading the infection and preventing serious complications.
Convenient Testing:
No doctorโs visit required. Available via at-home blood collection or at our Patient Service Centers (PSCs) in Central Florida. Nationwide testing is also available for individuals outside the region.
